Travel and accommodations

Travel and accommodations

On average, guests will stay for 3 nights at your wedding destination, usually arriving one day before the wedding. Day two often is the wedding day, and on day 3 they can relax (and sober up), do an excursion, see the sights, ... and fly back home or the next day.

These guests will often arrive and leave more or less at the same time, often even with the same flights, which makes it possible to make a group deal for flights and transfers.

Most airlines offer a group rate from 10 or more passengers onwards, where the price is usually not different from the 'normal' one, but a requested number of seats are blocked at the agreed price, until x weeks before departure.

During that time, your guests can 'book' their flights through you, without risking prices changes or unavailability.

Then, at the agreed x weeks before departure, you send the final passenger list to the airline.

We can arrange for a group transfer from the airport directly to the accommodation(s).

This arrangement makes it very easy and stress-free for your guests to travel to your wedding destination.

However, often guests have a different agenda, arriving days before, or staying days after the wedding, which makes it impossible for them to enter your group arrangement.

In that case, they can book flights on their own, and book an airport transfer or rental car through our online systems.

Either way, according to wedding etiquette, you, as wedding couple are not responsible for the travel arrangements of your guests, nor do you have to pay for them-

Destination wedding flights and airport transfer

Map of the Spanish Costa blanca with international airports shown

The Spanish Costa Blanca has 3 international airports with daily flights from all over Europe operated by various regular and low-cost airlines making tickets cheap and easy to find.

Which airport to choose depends on your airport of departure, price of the tickets, etc... The 3 airports are;

Aeropuerto de Alicante                      (Code ALC)
This is a totally new airport, just south of Alicante, and it's the one we recommend.
For daytime arrivals, you can book a cheap bus transfer to various cities and hotels,
( see information below ) and various rental car agencies have their offices in the airport arrival hall, with rental car pick up in the airport parking.
However, it's vital to book with a reliable rental car agency to avoid unexpected extra charges when you return the car.

Aeropuerto de Valencia - Manises             (code VLC)
This recently partially newbuild, partially renovated airport, is approx 20 minutes from Valencia city centre.
From the airport, you can take a bus to the central bus station, where you can take a regular bus to various cities such as; Alicante, Altea, etc...
Unfortunately, the safety reputation of the central bus station is not very good.
Unless you travel in a group of 10 persons or more, the transfer to your accommodation will be substantially more expensive than from Alicante airport.

Aeropuerto de region de Murcia             ( code RMU)
This is a brand new airport, located approximately a 1-hour drive south of Alicante

Flying to the Costa Blanca
Costa Blanca Events is not a travel agency, so we don't book flights.
However, there are various booking sites and search portals that enable you to quickly find cheap flights.

Some of the airlines also offer special conditions for groups of 10 or more passengers.
The most important advantage of these group conditions is usually not the price, if not the flexibility to book, change names, etc.

Group transfer to and from your accommodation
For 10 or more people arriving at the same airport with the same flight, or with little time difference, a private shuttle bus transfer is definitely not only the best but also the fastest and the cheapest solution.
A driver will await you in the arrival hall, and accompany you to the bus, which will take you straight to the accommodation.
The price depends on the nº of people, the arrival airport, the arrival time and the selected accommodation. Prices usually vary between 18 - 25 € per person, one way.
The same is valid for your departure transfer.

For airport transfer of 10 persons or more, please contact us.

Individual transfer to and from your accommodation

If you're arriving individually, or with less 10 persons or less, then there are various options ;
From Alicante airport, we can offer a fast and reliable private-shared shuttle bus transfer from and to the airport.
There are various shuttle buses, depending on your destination, and the coaches have a maximum of 5 stops.
Upon arrival in Alicante airport, you proceed to the bus departure level (-2) where a host will await you.
In medium and high season the shuttle buses are usually available for arrivals from 9 AM to midnight, in the low season other times may apply.
The service is also available for your departure transfer to the airport.

Advanced booking is required via the link below, where you can also see the various destinations, prices etc...

Rental car

Another good option is a rental car because here on the Spanish Costa Blanca, they're usually very cheap.
Different rental car companies and booking portals offer the best rates on the internet. However, some rental companies charge excess fees under false pretences, such as 'the car was very dirty' or 'there was a dent' etc.

That's why we prefer to work with only one rental car company, one of the biggest in the region.
They offer good, almost new cars, excellent service, and simple, clear rental agreements, so you don't have to worry about the small print.

Unlimited mileage, CDW insurance without own risk (for a small supplement you can also choose all-risk insurance ), no airport surcharge during office hours, 24-hour road assistance.

When you collect the car, you pay for a full fuel tank, but for rental periods of up to 3 days, the remaining fuel is refunded when you return the vehicle.

To rent a car, you need to have a credit card at hand.

Prices are clearly listed, no hidden extra's, no worries.

Taxi Transfer

Although taxis generally are cheap in Spain, public airport taxis are expensive
Various companies offer a private taxi to and from the airport, which is usually cheaper, because they don't have an official taxi license, and so there is a risk involved.

Driving to the Costa Blanca

Because tickets are so cheap and easy to find, driving to the Costa blanca often is not the best solution.

Wedding accommodation in the Costa Blanca

A wedding in Spain is not over and done within one day, that much is clear!
Usually, the guests fly in and stay a few nights in Spain, often more.

If you have been on a tour of the venues and accommodations with us, then we've discussed the various options with you during the visit.
If not, you can find all info, description, photos and prices of the accommodations we work with on our online systems.

Accommodations in the Costa Blanca offer great value for money.
Especially since we have negotiated exclusive deals, starting as low as 20 € per person and per night.
Prices depend on the accommodation chosen, and season.

Based on our info, bride and groom select the accommodation(s) they wish to suggest to their guests.

It's absolutely recommendable to limit the number of accommodations, where your guests will be staying.

If your guests are staying in lots of different accommodations in the area, then chances of all guests arriving in time for the wedding are close to zero.
Or it will require extensive organisation, transport and costs to bring your guests to the venue, and back after the party.

Rental cars are absolutely not advisable on the wedding day.
In Spain, as in most other countries, drinking and driving is a terrible idea, and alcohol controls are widespread.

Taxies are often challenging to come by.
They and cannot be booked in advance,
This often results in long waiting for guests who want to return to their accommodation, which is very inconvenient for them.

Therefore, choosing only one accommodation is ideal, because it creates the best ambience within the group, especially if it's a small group. It also saves on transport, makes it easier for guests to book hairdresser, makeup artist, etc.
Finally and most importantly, it reduces the risk of guests arriving late on the day of your wedding.

But what if your accommodation of preference cannot sleep all your guests, or you suggest a luxury hotel, which not all of your guests can afford.

Then we recommend suggesting a maximum of 3 accommodations to your guests, in different price ranges.
A hotel is the most flexible choice, and we have negotiated great deals with various hotels in the region.
Some hotels, especially during high season, impose a minimum number of nights, often 2 or 3, especially in the weekend, while others allow a stay of just one night.
Most hotels include breakfast, making the stay very relaxed since you don't need to go out for breakfast or buy food in the supermarket. It's a luxury too, rooms are cleaned, beds made, etc...

And it doesn't have to be expensive since we have negotiated exclusive deals and great hotel wedding packages.

Have a look at the accommodations section on our photo gallery website
A finca is the name of a traditional Spanish villa.
There are thousands of villa's and apartments for rent in the Costa Blanca. By law, they must be registered as a tourist accommodation, which offers some form of guarantee on quality. Unfortunately, the majority of owners still haven't registered their rental property, and continue to rent out often dated, poorly maintained villas.

Apartments and villas are usually rented out per week, from Saturday to Saturday, especially in high season.
This is often a problem since most likely, the majority of your guests will not stay for a whole week.
Often costs like final cleaning, use of electricity, internet, airconditioning, etc.. are charged extra, making the total cost often higher than a hotel.
Usually, there is also a deposit, usually paid by the wedding couple, which they lose in case of damages.

But a rental property does offer a lot of freedom and privacy.
You get up when you want, no queue at the restaurant, do what you want, and everything in the complete privacy of your group.

Therefore, as wedding planners, we've selected a limited number of finca's, villas and apartments which are perfect for groups.
They offer great value for money, and we can monitor their quality.

Costa Blanca Events has it's own, proprietary accommodation booking system, which makes it easy for you and your guests to book,
and all our accommodations offer the lowest price guarantee!
